This is an interesting 8 minute clip, and it correlates with my previous post. It’s a short story of an artist named John Bonner who is attempting to commute from the North Shore (a Boston suburb) into Boston. The author does this with a sort of dry, tongue-in-cheek sort of way…it’s rather entertaining. I originallyContinue reading “The Impossible Journey”

>Frank Zappa "Plays" a Bike
>This is an interesting (and very funny) video…it’s sort of long-ish…over 16 minutes. It shows a very young Frank Zappa making music on a bike. He’s on the Steve Allen Show (1963) and his cleverness is already apparent. It shows not only Zappa’s early genius, but also his ability to make music out of virtuallyContinue reading “>Frank Zappa "Plays" a Bike”

>Lebanese Lentil Soup with Lamb
>This recipe is really a variation of the classic Lebanese lentil soup (which is often vegetarian). With the addition of lamb and potato it really becomes a full meal (the classic recipe also usually includes spinach or Swiss chard). The soup is seasoned with cumin, allspice, and just a hint of cinnamon. It’s also heavyContinue reading “>Lebanese Lentil Soup with Lamb”

>Advice From Julia: Don’t Fear Failure
>If you’re a fan of Julia Child (as I am) you’ll find these two videos inspiring. Not only was she full of knowledge, she was also inspiring and encouraged people to simply cook…even if you thought you couldn’t. If you have a few minutes watch both these clips. The first one (a mere 45 seconds)Continue reading “>Advice From Julia: Don’t Fear Failure”

Mary Travers 1936-2009
What a beautiful video…what a lovely voice. Thank you Mary for your song; thank you for your sincerity. When I watch this video it is almost impossible not to tap my foot…tears well in the corners of my eyes (in a good way)…thank you. Click here and here.

R.I.P. Jim
I just learned that Jim Carroll–poet, author, musician–passed away last Friday. He was a prolific poet but became famous for his memoir, Basketball Diaries (which was later made into a movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio). Some claim that his 1980 album, Catholic Boy, was the last great punk album. His writings (along with Kerouac, Ginsburg, andContinue reading “R.I.P. Jim”

9/11
The front lawn of the American Red Cross on Delaware Avenue. Every year they place a flag on their lawn for each person lost in the 9/11 attacks. Each flag lists the persons name, where they were from, their age, and what their occupation was. It is very moving.Peace, Shalom, Paix, Frieden, Salam, Paz, Pace

Are you kidding me? Is this some kind of a joke?
I was just cruising the website of Curbside Cycles, one of my favorite Toronto bike stores, when I came across this lovely Pashley handlebar bag. It is beautiful, isn’t it? How much would you pay for it? I was thinking…well, it is pretty nice, the next time I’m in Toronto maybe I’ll pick one upContinue reading “Are you kidding me? Is this some kind of a joke?”

>Snowy April
>I love the snow…I really do. And just the other day I was lamenting how I wouldn’t get to ride in it until next autumn. We’ll this morning I woke to a couple inches of the white stuff; the themperature was 26F. In a northern city like Buffalo this doesn’t even phase us…if it wasContinue reading “>Snowy April”
