Things That Grow Back
Yup, it’s almost that time of year again…time to start planting vegetables. I look at it with both dread and anticipation…I enjoy doing it but anyone that plants a garden knows how much work it is, especially in the beginning. But one of the things that I enjoy about this time of year, the timeContinue reading “Things That Grow Back”

Last of the Season
Dug up what remained of the garden yesterday….I’m always a little surprised what I find under wilted leaves and plants this late in the season. I love autumn (it’s my favorite season) but it’s also a somewhat melancholy time for me, I know what’s ahead…time to brace for the long darkness of winter. I loveContinue reading “Last of the Season”

Autumn
Autumn. Gardening is over, essentially. And it was a lousy year for it, too. Low yield (probably because of all the rain in the beginning of the season)…some stuff died (corn mostly…not sure why, but other stuff, too…mostly because of my neglect)…and what did survive was taken by the rabbits (damned urban rabbits, click here).Continue reading “Autumn”

>Ratatouille and Pasta (sans aubergine)
>My gardens are not doing that well this year…partly because of the crazy wet summer we’ve had, but also because of my lack of weeding and trimming (not to mention what the rabbits and slugs have pilfered)…it really is out of control. At any rate, I am finally starting to get a few things, andContinue reading “>Ratatouille and Pasta (sans aubergine)”

>I planted six broccoli plants this year….four of them were doing exceptionally well. I use the past tense, were, because this is all that remains of them. A couple days ago these leafy plants were about two feet wide but this is all that’s left…stumps. It seems like rabbits are everywhere in the city thisContinue reading “>Urban Rabbits”

>Invasion Of The Giant Zucchini (Courgette)
>I hadn’t been in my backyard for about a week or so, and was overwhelmed at the sheer number of large zucchini growing…it’s amazing how many vegetables two zucchini plants will produce…they are literally taking over the teeny garden (and they were so cute and small when I pushed the seedlings into the ground lastContinue reading “>Invasion Of The Giant Zucchini (Courgette)”

3rd Generation Sunflower
I planted a sunflower close to my front porch two years ago. Last year a few feet in front of the original location another grew without me planting it…seeds fell and it replanted itself. This year a few feet further the same thing happened. Nature takes care of itself if we let it. Beautiful. IContinue reading “3rd Generation Sunflower”
