Stand Alone

I’m thinking about purchasing one of these stands for the Mundo but am not sure if I should wait…it’s brand new and am wondering if it would be smarter to wait for the next version, to work out any kinks.. Currently I have the sidestand, which came standard on the bike. It works surprisingly well for such a heavy bike, but when you load it up with heavy or awkward loads (which I’ve been known to do) the bike can fall over…and at the very least the bike is on a slant so things sometimes slide off as you load them. Anyhow, I can’t find any actual reviews (other than this one, but they are also trying to sell it).

The bike itself, in my opinion, is superbly designed, so I can’t imagine the good people at Mundo would sell a product that was not a good fit for the bike…but still, $77.00 is a lot of money (for me) to shell out for a kickstand. I know that there are more than a few Mundo riders out in the blogosphere that check into this blog from time-to-time…have any of you tried this kickstand? Are you considering getting one?

Change and Growth

I saw this bumper sticker on a car as I was rode the Mundo yesterday…I was feeling stressed (self-imposed, no doubt) and when I saw this it made me smile. The message did it’s job, I suppose.

I’m curious if there is a person who originally said this or if it is just a catchy phrase to sell $2 bumper stickers. Googling it I only found one reference to its originator so I don’t know if it is accurate. A blog writer claims that it was originally said by Walt Disney, which would actually make sense because he was supposedly a proponent of positive thought and reportedly  a member of the Rosicrucian Order.

Still not sure who said it, but it made me smile and relieved a little stress…and that–to me–is really all that mattered at the time.

Tiny Ears of City Corn

For the past several years I’ve grown a few stalks of corn in my front yard garden mostly for ornamental purposes…some years the yield is better than others. This year it’s pretty good. The ears are small, but they’re full and the kernels are sweet. I only have a dozen stalks growing next to my hitching post and have probably about 2 dozen ears ready to be picked…not bad. To see pictures of my corn crop from a couple of summers ago where I had about 4 dozen stalks growing, click here.

Copenhagen’s Car-Free Streets & Slow-Speed Zones

A model for the rest of us. When I see clips like this it actually makes me want to walk and ride more even though there are so few of us (compared to a city like Copenhagen)…my theory is that the more people see others walking and riding bikes the more it will make them want to do the same.

S.U.V. and S.U.B.

Yesterday when I came out of my house there was this enormous brand new Hummer sitting in front of it…I was, and still am, in awe of its size. It seemed really out of place on our narrow Allentown street. Why, I couldn’t help but wonder, does someone need–or want–that much power in an urban (or suburban…or even rural) environment? It just seems so unnecessary.

After I walked the Mundo down the plank of gratefulness I went back up to lock the front door. When I turned I saw the image you see above…is it just me or is this ironic? I of course had to snap a picture. I also had planned on writing a clever caption to it but could not say it any better than Ms. Murdoch
