I know this may seem silly, but the other day as I was happily pedaling around town on my Mundo the words of the title to this post came to me: Ride a bike that you like. It may seem obvious, but I don’t think it’s overtly so. Now this too may be a rashContinue reading “Ride A Bike That You Truly Like”

Two More Uses For Bikes and Trikes
Photos found here and here. A bike hearse and a bike bar…hmmm. Both are esoteric, I suppose. And both are as equally enviromentally friendly and just as important as the other…they both offer a service. I suppose it depends on your view as to whether they are linked to one another. Personally the barContinue reading “Two More Uses For Bikes and Trikes”
A Short Talk with Val Kleitz
This is a short talk with Val Kleitz, veteran cargo biker and all around bicycle advocate. The video is only a few minutes long (and probably dated by a few years) but it is truly inspiring. He talks not only about the importance of the (cargo) bike, but also specifics about his. Just another exampleContinue reading “A Short Talk with Val Kleitz”
Cargo Bikes
There’s a great article on cargo bikes at treehugger. It profiles 22 longtails/cargo/utility bikes (including the incredible looking 8-freight listed above). Click here to see the entire article.
Carrying Tires on a Bike
Seems a little ironic, doesn’t it?…Carrying car tires on a bicycle. Just another example of Things That Can Be Carried On A Bike (and no, that is not me…I found this clip at CETMA Cargo…I do own one of their front racks). And yes, these tires could have been carried in a car trunk orContinue reading “Carrying Tires on a Bike”
NYC Longtail
A friend sent this picture to me from NYC (Thanks Suzy)…she spotted it on Fourth Street in the West Village…looks like it’s a xtracycle conversion. My hope is that longtails will become more common place…they really are the most practical way to move things in an urban environment.
The Usefulness of Long Tail Bikes
Long tail bikes (or, bikes with extended rear cargo areas) are becoming increasingly popular these days…and rightly so…the load capacity is truly amazing. Click here to see reviews of some of the bikes that are currently available. If you’ve read this blog before, or even if it is your first time, you know that IContinue reading “The Usefulness of Long Tail Bikes”
Sold!
Yup, I sold it…well, almost…was given a down-payment on it. The buyer is a local chef/restaurateur that is going to use it to make deliveries…awesome, I couldn’t ask for a better home for it. When the sale goes through and it’s in use I’ll post photos and links. In the meantime here’s a link ofContinue reading “Sold!”
Camper Bike (trike, actually)
Just when you thought you may have seen everything…along comes Kevin Cyr’s Camper Bike, it’s a functional piece of artwork created by the artist. I imagine it’s top speed is something like 2mph, and it’s probably not that stable…none-the-less, it’s pretty cool. Apparently he creates these pieces in order to paint them. To visit hisContinue reading “Camper Bike (trike, actually)”
Mail Bike
I came across this photo the other day. It’s actually a German mail bike…what a great idea…maybe it’s something the U.S. should take up (in urban areas) to help our ailing mail system (hey, it would keep fuel costs down). Intrigued, I googled “mail bicycle” and found a ton of hits (click here if you’dContinue reading “Mail Bike”
Bikes Can Really Haul Stuff
These photos make me feel like such a wimp…but they’re inspiring at the same time…makes me want to sell my pickup truck.
CSX Commercial
I came across this video on this blog today…it’s a 30 second clip about moving cargo by train, but the bike scenes are worth watching.

Things That Can Be Carried On A Bike (#42)
A big cardboard box full of hardwood scraps. Someone must have put in a new hardwood floor (oak, I think) and put the scraps in a box at the curb…perfect kindling for later this year. And yes, I realize that it is in the middle of summer, but this was just too good to passContinue reading “Things That Can Be Carried On A Bike (#42)”

24 Mason jars.An 80 foot garden hose.A gym bag full of wet clothes.3 rolls of paper towels. I always enjoy the comments and looks I get riding this bike, especially when it’s loaded…but I received one of the best comments today while riding down trendy Elmwood Avenue during peak rush hour. It was from aContinue reading “Things That Can Be Carried On A Bike (#39)”
