The Bicycle City

There are so many bad or negative stories in the news everyday that it’s really nice and inspiring when I come across the positive stuff…like this short clip. It’s a trailer for an upcoming documentary about an organization–Pedals for Progress–that donates bikes (by the hundreds and thousands) to impoverished countries to help change peoples lives.Continue reading “The Bicycle City”

A Few Pics and How I Finally Figured Out My Bicycle Computer

As mentioned in a previous post I had gone on a longish ride today for exercise. Actually it was probably the longest I’ve ridden the Mundo at one time…over 22 miles (35km). I know that’s not a lot for some people (many people) but it is for me…especially when you are nearly 50 years oldContinue reading “A Few Pics and How I Finally Figured Out My Bicycle Computer”

>It’s Not Always About the Destination or How Much I can Carry…

>  …sometimes it’s just about the ride. With the weather starting to break I’ve been riding my winter bike less and the Mundo more…and for a while (during the deepest, darkest, and coldest days of winter) I nearly forgot how lovely and beautiful this bike is to ride. I had a meeting at church tonightContinue reading “>It’s Not Always About the Destination or How Much I can Carry…”

>Indirect Bicycle Advert

>Firstly I would like to say–and you probably already know this–that I am not in the habit of posting commercial advertisements on this blog…but I thought this was interesting. It’s an advert for Regions Bank, but that’s not the reason I posted it…it’s the other message in the clip, that it’s ok for adults andContinue reading “>Indirect Bicycle Advert”

A Few Random Thoughts, Photos, and Comments

I pass the above apartment house on my way home from work and there are usually a few fixies locked to that or another parking meter. This one, which is also a fixed gear bike, at least has brakes and wide tires…it makes me cringe when I see people riding brakeless (sp?), skinny-tire bikes inContinue reading “A Few Random Thoughts, Photos, and Comments”

Things That Can Be Carried On A Bike (#264)…and why I deserve a ticket

A cardboard box containing $36.22 in groceries (it’s a great way to limit my spending…bring a box, and if it doesn’t fit in the box I’m not buying it) and a 4lb. bag of dog food. One of the (many) things I like about bikes is being able to do my own repairs…and I learnContinue reading “Things That Can Be Carried On A Bike (#264)…and why I deserve a ticket”

Comments on the cold…and a few other things.

This is almost a continuation of a post I wrote a few days ago regarding the pattern of crazy weather we’re having this year…it snows, then turns frigid cold, then it warms up, things start to melt, then it turns cold again and things freeze rock-solid, then it snows…you get the picture. Anyhow, the aboveContinue reading “Comments on the cold…and a few other things.”
