This is one of my favorite stirfrys, or at least a variation of it. It’s a recipe that you’ll find in most Chinese restaurants but is very simple to make at home. The original recipe is sans chicken (hence the reason it’s in parenthesis in the title), but having a teen-aged son usually requires someContinue reading “Broccoli, Bean Curd (and chicken) Stirfry”

Ubuntu, A Second Opinion, and an Electronic Resurrection
The above image is a screen shot of my netbook, the same netbook that I ranted about in an earlier post…referring to it as mass-produced cheap crap. In that mini-rant I lamented on the lack of quality…how things are not built to last these days. The netbook had crashed for no explained reason–out of theContinue reading “Ubuntu, A Second Opinion, and an Electronic Resurrection”

Them and Their Bikes
I am not normally a fan of rap music (with the possible exception of early Beastie Boys and Grandmaster Flash) but this is pretty good…and it has a positive message (something, it seems, which is often difficult to find these days). It’s an ameture video which won a contest for 1MinuteToSaveTheWorld; it’s worth watching, andContinue reading “Them and Their Bikes”
Snowy Ride in…
Here’s a picture as I arrived at work this morning. After last week’s thaw and the new blanket of pure white snow it looks more like the beginning of winter than the end. And being frigid cold again, I was glad–as I often am–that I only have a short ride in the morning.
Plus de Neige
This was somewhat unexpected…I didn’t know we were supposed to get snow tonight. I thought the winter was winding down. None-the-less I still find it beautiful.
A Few Toronto Pics (and a couple comments)
I was in Toronto the last couple of days and, as usual, was impressed. I go there once or twice a year–as I have for the past 25 years–for a day or two simply for a quick overnight (or two) getaway. It is a mere 100 miles (160K) from Buffalo, and only two hours awayContinue reading “A Few Toronto Pics (and a couple comments)”
Things That Can Be Carried On A Bike (#273 & #274)

Full Moon over Allen Street (denuo)
On my way home from work tonight I was so taken by the moon I had to snap a few photos of it. I posted a photo of this a month ago from this same spot (at the last full moon…that photo was better; more dramatic, click here to see it). And though this imageContinue reading “Full Moon over Allen Street (denuo)”

Bikes Haul
Photo credit: Paul Freedman of Rock The Bike. Firstly I would like to say that I don’t know who this person is or where the photo was taken (I came across it here), but I thought this was so impressive that I’d pass it along. The guy is riding a Mundo, pulling a fully-loadedContinue reading “Bikes Haul”

Something Beautiful
Photo Credit: The Buffalo News It is so nice to see something as beautiful as this in the daily paper (which often seems to focus solely on the negative side of humanity). Pictured above is Gerda Klein–author, historian, crusader of tolerance, and Holocaust survivor–as President Obama places the Presidential Medal of Freedom on her. IContinue reading “Something Beautiful”
Things That Can Be Carried On A Bike (#271)

A canvas bag containing, among other things, a semi-functioning netbook, an e-book reader containing approximately 157 books, an actual book, a day planner, and various writing implements.
Comfort Food
Beautiful isn’t it? The above photo is a slice of bread which I made the other day with just four ingredients. For those of you who know me, or even those that just know me through this blog, you are probably aware that two of my favorite foods to cook are soup and bread. A personContinue reading “Comfort Food”

Pain Perdue et Haute Cuisine (un oxymoron ou non?)
I’ve posted in the past that my son’s favorite breakfast (or lunch) is French toast (click here, here, or here), and this is just another variation. I, of course, used homemade whole wheat bread for this version, but I also made a sort of syrup/puree out of apple, nectarine, honey, and simple syrup. And whileContinue reading “Pain Perdue et Haute Cuisine (un oxymoron ou non?)”
