I love the winter…I really do. And I feel blessed to live in a region that has four distinct seasons. But I have to admit that by late February the bleakness can really bring me down (maybe it’s the lack of sun). Today was such a mix of weather I did not know how toContinue reading “Day and Night”

Things That Can Be Carried On A Bike (#136)
A box of wine. Lately I’ve been noticing more and more wines in boxes. It used to be that a boxed wine was a crappy wine…well this doesn’t seem to be the issue any longer. Tonight I purchased a box of my favorite everyday wine…and it cost 40% less than if it were in aContinue reading “Things That Can Be Carried On A Bike (#136)”

Food Philosophy 1917

Artists on Their Bicycles NYC 2010
Bicycles (in this blogger’s opinion) are still the best way to get around in an urban environment. This image is part of a 2010 calendar put out by New York City’s Swiss Institute; click here to see more pics and to read about the calendar.
Amazing (and a little scary)
This is a 1-gig flash drive that one of my dogs mistook for a small chew toy. After I retrieved it from his mouth I looked at it a little closer. This teeny device is capable of holding 500,000 books. At a quick estimation I probably have about 1000 books in my house. TheContinue reading “Amazing (and a little scary)”
Very Funny (and true)
When I first came across the image of this t-shirt it immediately range true to me. Then when I Googled the saying I came across the video…all I can say is it is hilarious. It’s 4-minute clip of the comedian Louis C.K. on Conan O’Brien. If you are in need of a laugh I encourageContinue reading “Very Funny (and true)”

The Day Before Lent
The cartoon was found here…click it to read it. As most know, this Tuesday is the day before Lent. In some parts of the country and other parts of the world this day is known as Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday…the the day Christians are expected to use up any sweets, meats, and otherContinue reading “The Day Before Lent”
Seven-Grain Whole Wheat Bread
If you’ve visited this blog before then you know that I enjoy baking bread. After years of doing so it is rare that the loaves do not turn out really good, but some are better than others. Then there are the instances where everything is aligned just right–the temperature of the dough, grains cooked justContinue reading “Seven-Grain Whole Wheat Bread”
Excellent Television Commercial
OK, I realize that I claim this to be an ad-free blog…and it is. But every so often I come across something I feel worthy of posting that happens to be a commercial. This is an example. I love this commercial and think it is excellent for so many reasons (and yes, one of theContinue reading “Excellent Television Commercial”
Ten Snowy Miles on the Mundo (and a little Buffalo history)
I had the day off today and had it in my head that I was going to go for a ride despite the cold and snowy weather. As it turns out I was actually over-dressed and had to remove a layer. When I’m on a bike and riding through areas I normally wouldn’t, I feelContinue reading “Ten Snowy Miles on the Mundo (and a little Buffalo history)”

Pizza
I love pizza…especially when made with my own hands. Here’s a picture of the one I made for my son and I as it bakes in the oven. Honey-Whole Wheat Crust. Tomato Sauce. Broccoli. Three Cheeses. Delicious and healthy. Click here for a recipe with pictures in an earlier post.
Disappearing Spaghetti Squash Fritatta
This could easily have been called easy fritatta, or delicious fritatta, but I named it disappearing fritatta because when I made it it looked huge and I intended on eating only half of it…then I went back for another piece…then another, well you get the picture. Here’s how to make it. Split the squashContinue reading “Disappearing Spaghetti Squash Fritatta”
