Just one of the reasons I choose to ride a bike…

I’ve mentioned in previous posts but not in quite a while that one of the things I really like about riding a bike is that I am an active part of the environment around me, that I am out in the elements. But even more than that, when I’m on a bike I see thingsContinue reading “Just one of the reasons I choose to ride a bike…”

Just a goose…

This post could easily be titled “more things (or another thing) I saw while riding my bike today.” I love seeing nature in the city. It is all around us all we have to do is look. And often I don’t see it, or at least take it for granted. This morning, for example, whileContinue reading “Just a goose…”

Past and Present…the view from my handlebars separated by more than 100 years (#3)

So if you’ve been to this blog before you know that one of my favorite pastimes is to take picture of things I see while riding my bike(s). This is a third installment of a series that really interests me (click here and here to see the two previous posts). Basically, I take photos fromContinue reading “Past and Present…the view from my handlebars separated by more than 100 years (#3)”

The View from My Handlebars on a Cool Spring Evening…

Despite a light rain, it was–after spending a hot and bustling day in the kitchen–a lovely evening to be on a bike. Urban Simplicity.

Plus de Fleurs (or…nature blows me away)

Okay, so yes, I realize that I sometimes get carried away with photos of flowers. But I can’t help myself…their incredible and natural beauty blows me away (especially when looked upon through a camera lens or close up). All of these flowers are growing in my next door neighbor’s front yard (thanks Melissa!). And I’mContinue reading “Plus de Fleurs (or…nature blows me away)”

Two Views from My Handlebars (jour et nuit)

These photos are actually in reverse order…the below image was shot last evening on my way home and the above one on my way to work this morning. It just seemed more natural to have the day image above the evening one. Anyhow, beautiful, beautiful weather these last few days…perfect. And there is no otherContinue reading “Two Views from My Handlebars (jour et nuit)”

Angry Bird…

No, I am not referring to the internet game, Angry Birds. And I don’t know if this bird is actually angry at me, though it does look like it in the bottom two photos. But I do know that it is a proven fact the birds can remember you. These photos are in the successionContinue reading “Angry Bird…”

A Doorway Separated by Eighty Years (interesting but a bit eerie)…

I have been interested in photography (or some other art-form) my entire life. And about 25 years ago I discovered a small but thick book of glossy photos at a local library by George Brassaï. It was published in 1933 and titled Paris de Nuit (Paris at night). I was mesmerized by it. M. Brassai,Continue reading “A Doorway Separated by Eighty Years (interesting but a bit eerie)…”

A Building and a Bird in the Rain

When I left work today cold air was blowing out some of the warmer air we had yesterday, creating some fog. As I rode home I could see the top of our city hall shrouded in fog and thought it would make an interesting photo. So after stopping home I rode downtown. But by theContinue reading “A Building and a Bird in the Rain”

A Few Things I Saw While Riding My Bike Today…

This morning, after working on a paper I need to write and feeling a bit overwhelmed, I went for a bike ride. I rode the short distance to Buffalo’s waterfront and Canalside. This is an interesting point where multiple waters meet…the Buffalo River, the Erie Canal, Lake Erie, and the Niagara River. It is suchContinue reading “A Few Things I Saw While Riding My Bike Today…”

l’heure bleue…

These are two photos of Allen Street, very close to whee I live. I had gone for the short walk in the cold, wet, wind and had a camera with me and snapped a couple photos. What is interesting, I think, are the colors. I’ve often said on this blog–and many of my photos reflectContinue reading “l’heure bleue…”

10 Random Things I saw While Walking in NYC this Past Weekend

I was in New York this past weekend. And whenever I’m in a large city–especially NYC–I love to walk. I had a camera with my (surprise, right?) and snapped a few photos. Actually I snapped nearly two hundred photos, and here are ten of them in no particular order (but I will give brief explanationsContinue reading “10 Random Things I saw While Walking in NYC this Past Weekend”

Crocuses and Lillies…evidence of spring

Despite the cold temps, these plant still manage to push through the damp soil and reach for the sun. Amazing isn’t it? In a few month’s time the crocuses will be a memory and the tiger lillies (two below) will all but have taken over my garden. Urban Simplicity.

Things I Saw While Riding My Bike Today (a photo essay)

Firstly I have to say a couple things. Mainly an apology (if these pictures bore you). This is the most photos I’ve posted at one time. But sometimes I simply cannot help myself. I am proud of my beautiful city and it’s long history. Yes, I realize–to my friends “across the pond” who are readingContinue reading “Things I Saw While Riding My Bike Today (a photo essay)”

Aerial Ballet…predators looking for food in the city

This is pretty cool (I think)…birds of prey looking for food in the heart of the city. I first posted about these birds last year, when one of them took up residence in a garden where I work. At the time I thought it was a falcon (our city does host does have them…click here,Continue reading “Aerial Ballet…predators looking for food in the city”
